Ash woke in a surprise; he could have sworn he had a nightmare where Pikachu was slain in battle. Horrified, he opened his tent and ran to find Pikachu resting on the picnic table. The second the tent went up; the electric mouse perked his ears and turned to his trainer.

“Pika?”

Ash caught his breath and smiled, pulling his friend to a hug.

“You’re safe. Good.” Ash said in relief. He looked around… only to see their current group was missing. It was just them at a picnic table in a grassy field.

“That’s strange. Where did Serena and Clemont disappear too?” he asked.  Pikachu looked around quizzing, just as concerned.

“Pika pi.”

Noticing a figure in the distance; Pikachu’s ears twitched and he began to tug at Ash’s shirt.

“Pika, pika, Pikachu!”

Ash looked at the rodent then faced where he was pointing. Curious; Ash lifted his friend and headed to the figure.

In the distance; Tai finished a rice ball, tossing the second one to his dinosaur-like friend.

“This is strange Tai.” The dinosaur began, eating the triangle shaped snack in a single bite. “The fact we’re here, and you’re not an adult anymore is just strange.”

“Trust me Agumon,  I don’t get it either. But we’re here together aren’t we?” the teen said with a boastful smirk.

“I guess. It almost feels like old times in a way.”

The two had to stop their conversation as they began to notice the duo approaching them.

“Whoa! What kind of Digimon is that!?” Tai asked, his smirk turning into full out surprise and glee. Agumon turned and tilted his head.

“Not any kind of Digimon  I’ve ever seen.” He said. Ash looked at Agumon and instantly reached for his PokeDex… no information.

“Huh? Is that a new type of Pokémon?” Ash asked, instantly impressed. Tai raised an eyebrow.

“Pokémon? Don’t you mean Digimon?” he asked. Ash didn’t seem to understand the difference it made, maybe it he was from a foreign land?

Instead of a sensible option like going for more questions; Ash grabbed his hat.

“I’m Ash. On my way to be a Pokémon Master. How about we fight it out a bit?” he asked. Tai smirked and clenched his fist.

“A sparring match? Sounds neat actually. Agumon, wanna go at it for old times sake?” he asked, turning to his dino-friend. Agumon smirked.

“Always good to go for another round Tai. Lets go!” he replied, stepping ahead and holding his claws forward.

“Ready Pikachu?” Ash asked, turning to his rodent pal.

Pikachu’s cheeks sparked a bit as he gave an energetic ‘Pika’. With that; he jumped off of his master’s shoulder and faced Agumon. The duel that every child of the 90 and early 2000s wanted, was about to come true.

FIGHT

[Digimon Dusk - Battle Theme 1]

“Pikachu! Use QUICK ATTACK, now!” Ash instructed.

The mouse smirked and dashed, nearly resembling a teleport. He hit Agumon directly in the chest, sending him back.

“Woah! For a mouse, he packs a wallop!” Tai said in surprise, Agumon brushed the attack and prepped his only real attack.

“Pepper Breath!”

Without hesitation; Agumon fired a single fireball directly at Pikachu. The mouse didn’t need Ash’s help to know to dodge. Hes seen quite a
bit of fire in his adventures to know what to do in said situations afterall.

With a quick hop to the side; Pikachu charged forth, frowning to show his war face.

“Alright Pikachu, use IRON TAIL!”

The mouse hopped forth and spun, his tail glowing white as he swung at the dinosaur. Agumon hopped back at the last moment, watching as the mouse’s tail raised the dust into the air from impact. Before Agumon could send another fireball at his tiny foe; he heard Ash’s voice.

“THUNDERBOLT!”

Agumon looked in confusion at the dust and was met with a blast of electricity hitting him directly. The shock brought him to a single knee much to Tai’s shock (no pun intended).

“Agumon, are you alright?” he asked, concerned for his friend’s health.

“Y-yeah, just a bit-” before Agumon could finish his sentence; Pikachu charged and tackled the dinosaur directly into his chest. The blow rocketed him across the ground, much to Tai’s shock.

“Wow, you’re not a good trainer are you?” Ash asked teasingly. Tai growled, shaking his fist.

“Agumon, don’t fall out here buddy!” he yelled. Agumon shook a bit and stood, catching his breath. He saw Pikachu approaching him at high speed, seemingly shifting back and forth at high speed. The dinosaur ran to meet his foe and swung his claw… and missed as Pikachu hopped over head and struck with another IRON TAIL.

The painful strike sent Agumon towards the ground, shaking him up quite a bit. Pikachu didn’t waste time to start glowing with electricity.

“THUNDERBOLT!” Ash shouted, shifting his hand to give weight to the command. Pikachu covered his body in electricity and fired directly at Agumon, shaking up the Digimon.

The jolting pain would send a normal man to shock. And the poor Digimon was almost out of the fight already, much to his friend’s fear. Unlike Ash, Tai was used to him and his friends being in danger of death. And this was bringing back each memory bit by bit: from Etamon to Piedmon.

“Agumon… AGUMON!!” he cried, tears flowing from fear. As Agumon fell over, his vision hazy; he heard Tai’s feared cries and felt the need to protect him.

Tai…”

Within that instant; a bright light enveloped Agumon, he could feel it… his strength increasing with newfound courage.

“Agumon digivolve to…”

In place of Agumon as he warped; a large dinosaur stood in place, blue stripes along his tail, two on each knee, one per elbow, and three on the underside of his mouth. On his head; what resembled the upper half of a skull with two horns on either side of the head and one on the nose stood. Instead of white; the skull was brown. His green-colored eyes now a reddish-tint in color.

“GREYMON!”

Ash and Pikachu looked in surprise as Agumon transformed. In his place was the titan dinosaur known as Greymon. With a powerful roar to introduce himself; Pikachu felt chills and began to shiver a bit. He seemed a bit INTIMIDATED at the sight. Ash quickly caught note and decided to improve his partner’s moral.

“Don’t worry Pikachu! You’ve taken down larger guys then him before! You can do it!”

Those words brought him back… he took down a Dragonite, a Rhydon, and a Latios afterall, a large dinosaur shouldn’t be a threat at all.

With newfound confidence; Pikachu clenched his paw and smirked.

“Pi.ka.chu.” he said in bold confidence. Greymon glanced down and took a step back.

“Nova Blast!” he roared, sending a large blast of fire at the mouse.

“Dodge it and use QUICK ATTACK, go!” Ash instructed. Pikachu effortlessly hopped to the side and became a yellow blur, charging directly
for Greymon. He struck directly into the large dinosaur’s stomach and bounced back, staggering him slightly.

“Don’t stop there Pikachu! Now use THUNDER!”

Without hesitation; Pikachu fired a bolt of thunder at his foe, hoping for the results to be the same as last time. As the jolts shocked into Greymon, Pikachu was shocked to see his foe wasn’t any worse for well. Then again, it wasn’t exactly a THUNDERBOLT afterall. Surely Ash had a plan for this.

“Pikachu, keep your distance and use another THUNDERBOLT!” Ash instructed. Pikachu did just as ordered and fired a larger blast of lightning at Greymon. This time, the large Digimon hopped to the side and charged for the mouse.

“Jump!”

“Do your best to keep that from happening Greymon!” Tai yelled, hoping to keep another incident from happening like a few moments ago. As Greymon tried to life his claws; Pikachu was already over his head.

“Pika-!”

“Too slow!” Greymon warned as he spun. His tail swerved upwards, allowing him to strike Pikachu across the air and into the picnic table with a powerful crash. Ash looked in surprise, hurrying to his Pokemon.

“Pikachu, are you okay?” he asked. The mouse pulled himself from the debris, an angry look on his face.

“Pika!” he yelled in response, getting up for another go. Hes taken worse hits than this in the past, and compared to those, they were merely love taps.

Ash smirked and grabbed onto his cap, turning it to the back. “Alright then, lets go again. Use an ELECTRO BALL!”

Pikachu smirked, as if he was wondering what took his trainer so long to give him the order for it. With a hop, Pikachu’s tail became engulfed in a large ball of electricity. Greymon just began to gather the flames from his mouth.

“Nova Blast!”

With that; he fired another large puff of flame, Pikachu didn’t hesitate to throw the ball of electricity. The elemental attacks collided and created an explosion that obscured the views of them both. Ash took this as a chance to use their trump card.

“VOLT TACKLE!”

Tai looked at the trainer and then back to the cloud, what he saw… he couldn’t believe his own eyes. The mouse was engulfed in more electricity then what should be physically possible. The amount around him made it seem that he was nothing more than a sketching trapped inside the ball itself.

“Pikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikapika!!” shouted the mouse as he dive bombed towards Greymon. Tai knew from experience that Greymon would be devastated if that connected and charged to protect his friend. As he did; his Digivice and crest began to shine as he held both arms out. Ash looked in utter shock as he tried to tell Pikachu to belay the order.

“Tai, move!” Greymon warned, trying to throw his friend.

KR-BOOM!!

The force and impact was enough to shatter the ground underneath Greymon, leaving a series of cracks along the grassy field that reached Ash. The raising storm of dust even blinded Ash for a moment. When it cleared enough for him to look; what he saw utterly baffled him.

Tai was in Greymon’s arms, seemingly dead. The Digimon shook him in fear, ignoring his own wounds. Ash hurried to assist him, even Pikachu was worried that he overdid it. They couldn’t hear anything… and with it… After several seconds of silence; Greymon began to roar in anger.

“Greymon digivolve to…”

Ash and Pikachu looked in horror as the skull began to turn silver. The stripes that went from his elbows to chest became a metallic covering, along these were metallic spikes protruding from his back and even his right arm becoming engulfed in a white flash to resemble a metal claw.

“Metal-Greymon!”

The Digimon was furious. And unlike in the past; he was more than willing to crush both, the Pokémon and his trainer. This feeling was foreign to Greymon, who normally fought for protection. Normally the rage would risk him becoming his darker side: Skull-Greymon. Instead, he went straight to his normal state. Glancing down; he roared directly into Ash’s face and prepared to skew him with his metallic claws.

Without hesitation; Ash held his hands out, remembering something hes long forgotten: The Aura. A blue shield forged before him, deflecting the Digimon’s hit just long enough for Pikachu to use IRON TAIL at Metal-Greymon’s skull.

THW-ACK!!

ITS NOT VERY EFFECTIVE

Metal-Greymon glared at Pikachu and lifted his claw, swatting the mouse like a bug with enough force to send him across the sky.

“Pikachu!” Ash yelled in fright. He turned to Metal-Greymon and ran, refusing to turn around as Metal-Greymon quickly caught up to him. Ash turned to face his soon-to-be fate sealer… and heard a voice.

“Metal-Greymon stop!”

In an instant; Metal-Greymon stopped just before his claws could become acquainted with Ash’s skull. He turned around in surprise to see Tai barely standing. The teen chuckled and forced himself up.

“Its okay buddy. The mouse hit you head on and the impact just knocked me out. Too bad Joe’s not here or he could’ve gave me a patch up.” He joked. Metal-Greymon walked to Tai in relief, reaching his organic arm for a hug. Ash smiled and remembered his first meetings with Pikachu. Speaking of; he was wondering where he went.

That was put to rest when he saw the mouse hurrying for him.

“Pika-pi!” was all that the mouse Pokémon could yell as he hopped into Ash’s arms.

“Its okay Pikachu.” Ash assured, smiling. He turned to Tai.

[Kids In America – LEN]

“We’re not done yet.” Promised the teen. As he clenched his fist, he faced it towards Ash and pointed.

“Metal-Greymon, lets show them what we’re made of!” he cheered. The Digimon faced Ash and Pikachu; giving off a frightening roar. Pikachu just looked at Ash and nodded, ready for a second round.

“Yeah. Lets go Pikachu! And lets start it off with a THUNDERBOLT!” Ash said with a smile. As the mouse hopped off his arms, he began to glow and sent another series of thunderbolts towards the Digimon.

“Giga Blaster!” Metal-Greymon shouted out as the thunderbolts grazed around him. The compartment on his chest opened up and shot forth two missiles. One missile was easily destroyed before it could even reach the mouse but the second hit dead-on. As Pikachu fell over; Ash waved his arm.

“Don’t give up yet! Use QUICK ATTACK!” he instructed. Pikachu opened his eyes and glanced at Metal-Greymon. With the target set; Pikachu became a blur for the third time and this time, hit directly at his foe’s chest, hitting the chest. Tai winced as he noticed Metal-Greymon stagger back.

“That all you got?” Metal-Greymon asked mockingly. He swung his robotic arm, slashing the mouse and following up with an upper-cut from his other hand. The force sent Pikachu into the air, stunning him just in time to follow up with another Giga Blaster.

“Pikachu, watch out!” Ash warned. Before Pikachu could hear the orders; the twin missiles hit dead-on, causing an explosion on contact. Ash looked in shock as he saw Pikachu coming down and hit the ground with a pained thud. As Pikachu winced, he opened a single eye and saw Ash glowing blue from the aura. Something was overwhelming the trainer and the Digi-destined equally. The chance to fight the way humans were intended to fight: with their fists.

“Metal-Greymon, finish off the mouse with any means necessary!” Tai ordered, charging towards Ash. The trainer from Pallet Town just held his hands forth, summoning a blue ball of energy in his hands.

“Pikachu, use THUNDERBOLT on his trainer!” Ash ordered; firing a blue blast of aura. Pikachu turned towards Tai and fired another blast of electricity. Tai was caught between a rock and a hard place now… but Metal-Greymon, as usual; had his back. He charged forward, barely getting between Tai and the electricity. Tai understood Ash’s strategy instantly the second he dodged to the side… and he couldn’t do a thing about it.

BOOM

[Surviving the Storm – Pokémon the First Movie]

Metal-Greymon was finished. As he fell over; he slowly shifted back to a weakened Agumon, who was in turn, starving on top of that.

“Agumon no!” Tai yelled, hoping to get to his friend. Ash wasn’t having it. Using his Pokeball, he tossed it directly at Tai’s head, knocking him on his back from the impact. Ash hurried towards the boy to finish him off and threw a punch. Tai barely dodged and threw a punch of his own, hitting the younger trainer in the cheek. Ash stumbled back a bit and growled, throwing another punch. Tai managed to block using his arm and slugged Ash again, knocking him to the ground.

As Ash fell; he activated the aura and foresaw a series of Tai’s follow up punches and shouts for Agumon. He wasn’t going to allow that.

With a roll; Ash head-butted Tai’s fist, the blow was painful… and even he had to admit that it was idiotic beyond all belief. But it gave Ash the strategy he needed to tackle the Digi-destined and begin to wail at him.

Back at Agumon; he glanced to see his friend getting pummeled by the trainer.

“Tai… no…” he hissed. As he began to stand, he tried to gather the energy for a pepper breath… but it was useless; especially with Pikachu striking the back of his head with an IRON TAIL. This time, it was painful.

As he tried to stand; he saw Tai hold his arms up defensively, his face bloodied and bruised. Ash continued to punch away, soon enough; gathering the aura to finish off the boy.

“I’ll put an end to this now.” Ash hissed, holding both hands at Tai’s face. As his hands began to glow; Agumon’s willpower spured again.

“TAI!!”

With that scream of terror; light enveloped Agumon…

“Agumon. Warp digivolve to…”

All three warriors turned in shock at what was going on, images of Greymon and Metal-Greymon seen for mere seconds before something new formed… something… deadly.

A humanoid stood before them. The half-skull similar to Metal-Greymon’s shrunk down to a more human-sized skull with the same features. His ankles gained metal pads while his arms gained similar pads and the same three metal claws revealing themselves; this was revealed alongside what appeared to be armor covering his chest and an armored series of pads resembling slits of a kilt. His back gained something new as well: a shield splitting to reveal a sun-based symbol, resembling the very crest that Tai carried. His eyes suddenly appeared as well; showing that they were now green. To show off his sheer power, he waved both arms, flames sprouting around him.

“WarGreymon!”

Tai grinned and raised his fist.

“Lets do this! WarGreymon!” Tai shouted. Ash turned back to  Tai, remembering what he was originally trying to do.

“Oh no you don’t! Brave Tornado!”

As Ash prepared the aura for one more shot; he was greeted with sudden blackness… and Tai was introduced to anything that was inside of the trainer: brain matter, bone fragments, muscle, bone marrow, tissue, and hair. All that remained of Ash were his jeans, shoes, and infamous hat. Tai was horrified at the sight… and Pikachu…

 How does one describe it?

The Sparrow divebombed towards them… allowing Pikachu to charge forth to his aid.

His love had given him the strength to defeat Gym Leaders, wild Pokemon, and save the world.

His trainer… the very boy he gained the same friendship a lone boy could get from his dog.

Was no more.

“Pika-pi…”

How would Misty know? Brock? Dawn? May? Serena? Clemont? Iris?Tracy? Professor Oak? Dahlia? Gary?

“Pika-pi… Pika-pi…”

With tears in his eyes, his beady black eyes nearly shrouded with them… Pikachu gave his ultimate shout of anger and sadness.

“PIKACHU!!”

WarGreymon turned towards the mouse Pokémon and noticed what he was planning. Tai was in trouble!

“Piiiika… CCCHHHHUUU!!”

Hundreds of voltage, nay, thousands of volts… went straight at Tai. The Digi-destined could barely move as he saw WarGreymon face him and hold his arms out: using his shield to protect them both.

Without hesitation; Pikachu made a beeline for WarGreymon, head-butting the very shield and forcing him to soar across the air. As the Digimon forced himself to stop; he saw Pikachu prepare to follow the law set by Hammurabi.

“Tai! Hurry and move!” begged WarGreymon. Tai tried to run… but it was too late. Thousands of volts went throughout Tai’s entire being, frying his skin entirely. Screaming; Tai fell over, his heart overcharging and exploding. His eyes rolled back and his skin became mere charcoal by resemblance. Tai fell over, dead. WarGreymon looked in absolute horror as he flew into the air.

[Battle Soundtrack]

“Pika-pi!!” Pikachu hissed, sending the same thousands of volts towards his foe. WarGreymon yelled in pain, only to receive more and more jolts into his core. If Pikachu had fired these sort of blasts earlier, he would’ve been destroyed… but now both of them had nothing to lose. And WarGreymon, was ready to show what happens when he got serious.

Holding both arms up; WarGreymon turned to face Pikachu, who was charging more and more electricity for one final move.

The mouse Pokemon’s body became engulfed in electricity, making him resemble an outline trapped in a bright ball.

“Pikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikapika!!”

The mouse crouched as close to the ground as he could and hopped, his pure willpower allowing him to use a newer VOLT TACKLE.

During this; WarGreymon had gathered all of the energy he needed from the atmosphere: a ball of pure condensed energy gathering in his very palms. The two warriors had their ultimate techniques ready. And now, it was time for the deciding factor.

“TERRA FORCE!!”

WarGreymon tossed the ball directly at Pikachu; who met it head-on with his ultimate attack. The power struggle had set in; and neither was backing down.

“Pikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikapika…”

“Lets go Pikachu!”

“You’re the best!”

“Pikachu…”

“Pika…”

He was NOT GOING TO DIE HERE

PikapikapikapikapikapikapikapikaPIKA!!”

The recoil had wrecked his entire being; but he overcame the Terra Force! Heading striaght towards WarGreymon; Pikachu aimed to rip through his  Digital rival through the skull… but WarGreymon wasn’t ready to quit.

“Brave Tornado!”

WarGreymon began to spin as fast as he could, resembling a mid-air twister. He dive bombed striahht towards Pikachu, hoping to overwhelm his foe with a single attack. Upon contact; everything went blank.

The world went white for them both. And a single being landed, standing upright; his foe landed on his feet as well… as the two silhouettes stood, one fell. His willpower was gone. And he was finished.

 The other fell over.

“Tai. I’m sorry.” He wept.

K-O!!

Wendy: “You sure that wasn’t the series finale? What happened!?”

Hakuboshi: “It was a close match, that was for sure. Ash and Pikachu are more experienced foes as theynever stopped their adventures. Also; Ash had battled Pokemon trainers with decades of experience; giving him more of a chance than Tai.”

Wendy: “Ah, I see! Then it helped that Ash had the aura, giving him an edge against Tai, whose a human with more real world durability versus anyone in Pokemon, correct?”

Hakuboshi: “Yep. However, what set the battle in favor of Tai and Agumon were the Digi evolutions. Each Digivolved state gave a full heal ability. Also; as Ash and Pikachu were cautious, it did give Ash the idea not to use the best techniques off the bat and save them for the end. However, thanks to the Digivolved states; this would eventually wear down on Pikachu. Even if hes faced Legendaries, he can be taken down by normal plant-type Pokemon. The rules are similar here where Tai and Agumon needed a combination of friendship and willpower to stand a chance. Then you give the Mons experience without their trainers.”

Wendy: “Which gives Agumon an edge since even as a Koromon, he could survive just searching around alone whereas Pikachu relies on Ash for orders. Also, despite Pikachu’s wider ranged of attacks and speed, he would have to tire eventually. And then theres what happened with Terra Force.”

Hakuboshi: “Volt Tackle always had the chance to backfire, even here. As such; ramming into an attack that’s energy from the very atmosphere would actually worsen Pikachu’s odds of victory against the Mega-evolved Agumon. In the end; Pikachu clearly outshined Agumon in speed and skill; but he will tire out just as quickly, and without Ash… well…”

Wendy: “Pikachu got POUNDed! The winner is Tai and Agumon!

Ash and Pikachu

+More experience

+Ash is a better tactician

+Ash’s aura manipulation gave him an edge against Tai

+Pikachu’s speed and size trumps Agumon-WarGreymon

-Ash’s lack of training with the aura

-Pikachu’s not best without Ash at his side

-Pikachu lacks durability and stamina to keep up with constant Digivolutions

Tai and Agumon

+Agumon doesn’t have to rely on Tai as much outside of giving him the willpower to Digivolve

+Digivolved states kept recuperating Agumon’s stamina and enhanced his durability

+Attacks rely on combustion/explosive forces, added up, it can take a toll (even if it doesn’t have major strengths or weaknesses against electric types)

+WarGreymon is a league of his own above Pikachu

-Tai isn’t as durable as people in the Pokémon Universe

-Agumon-Greymon wouldn’t be a long lasting threat

EPILOUGE

“With the twerp gone, where does that leave us?” Jessie sighed, burying the long time foe to the trio. James and Meowth kept quiet. Neither of them wanted to think about this. Their life work to capture this single Pikachu went down the drain.

“Maybe I could be of help.” A man offered. The trio turned, seeing a man stand before them.

“My name is Myotismon, and you seem to be in need of my assistance.” He introduced.

11 pages of single space. Over 4100 words typed out. 3 hous of writing... the battle everyone from the 90s and 2000s wanted is finally here!

If it was only a battle between Ash and Tai, Ash would’ve left Tai 6 feet under
