JUST OUTSIDE THE HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON

Wan and Hashirama met across from each other. The two men have been traveling across the land to find and end wars; to Wan, this new land was in constant war. War he had to stop. To Hashirama, the new land offered possibilities. Maybe a fertile ground for life. However, the two had to lock eyes. A sense of dread came over the both of them. A sense that the other was a primary threat: to Wan, this man was one of those who would likely be fighting the Spirits. To Hashirama on the other hand; this man was of a rival clan, like the Uchiha or the Sarutobi.

Either way; the two men hopped away, Hashirama just jumping a few steps while Wan used his airbending to gain distance. The two were prepared to fight, and were aiming to see just who was mightier. With a respectful smile from Hashirama and a bow from Wan, the fighters prepared for their ultimate confrontation.

FIGHT

Wan spun forward, a spark of flame sprouting just under his heel. When his leg connected with the ground, the simple flame became a large ball that instantly shot forth. Hashirama didn’t waste time watching the spectacle and ran to the side. As he did, he was met with a slick of ice forming under his feet to trip him. He stood his ground and looked forward, seeing the trial lead up to Wan. The first Avatar held his arms back and shot forth twin streams of flame, charging directly at Hashirama while using the ice to further boost his speed. Hashirama held one hand forward and charged a bit of charka in his other hand; balling it into a fist.

With a quick spin, Wan began spinning, sending the flames around him like whips while closing the gap even faster. Hashirama simply waited it out. The flames weren’t anywhere near him. After a few seconds; Wan hopped and surrounded his fist in a ball of blue fire.

“AAAAAHHHHHH!!”

“RAAAAAAAA!!”

With a thrust forward, Hashirama threw his punch and Wan’s fist connected with his. The result was an explosion that could be seen for a mile. The dust itself didn’t get the chance to settle as Wan began using the wind to spiral it. The nearby lake began to form a water spout. Hashirama, who had jumped away for clearance just saw the man create two twisters: one normal and one waterspout. The former resembling an F5. If not for his chakra control, he would’ve been swept up. However, the nearby trees had something else to say as some headed his way. Ducking underneath the tree; Hashirama watched as the twister headed his way. He had a plan, and it was now or never…

Standing forward; Hashirama felt his entire being feeling weary, as if he was being ripped apart. Focusing his chakra, he clapped his hands together.

“Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence!”

With that, the ground below began to rip open, wood itself sprouting from the ground complete with leaves and limbs. As the wood expanded, the twister continued to shred, eating it apart. Hashirama used this to his advantage to use a piece of it as a board as he entered the twister. Inside, he saw Wan directly in the center; holding his arms to keep the tornado up. As the wind split apart, Hashirama timed his jump and hopped forward, throwing a punch at the Avatar. Wan didn’t even notice until it was too late. The punch connected and broke his focus, sending him across the air and through his own twister. He flew directly into one of the buildings of the beautiful Babylonian city.

As the twister and its aquatic cousin died out Hashirama landed and smirked.

“Hope I didn’t break your concentration.” He teased. Not like the man could hear him anyway. Feeling it was over, he turned to leave but heard the sound of flames. Turning around, he saw Wan had flown out of the broken building using his flames as jets. Wan glanced down and began to throw a series of punches, each punch made a fireball to follow up.

The first Hokage focused his chakra and slid back across the ground, dodging each fireball with ease. That was when Wan changed his strategy and kicked back against the sky, using a kamikaze dive at his foe. Holding his fist back; Wan coated his hand in blue fire and water swirling around each other. Hashirama clenched his teeth and hopped back as far as he could, this allowed him to witness the destruction that created a fissure and destroyed a portion of the ground Wan connected with.

Shocked, Hashirama managed to land and prepared another series of handsigns. However, Wan appeared right behind him from underground. The Hokage was unable to react in time as Wan threw a kick. Said kick had its strength enhanced due to having wind propel it. The force sent Hashirama spiraling away and across the lake. Using his chakra to stand on the water; Hashirama looked down and noticed the water sinking and forming into a wave behind him. Shocked; Hashirama hopped onto the ground… only for it to open underneath him. Creating some handsigns, Hashirama managed to use another Deep Forest Emergence; summoning the wood inside the earth to protect him from being crushed. Using the plant as a platform, he hopped out and held his arms across his face, blocking on oncoming punch. Wan smirked and waved his hand, sending a stream of water to hit the Hokage and send him into the city. As Hashirama crashed against the ground, he had a plan and stood up, catching his breath.

Outside the city; Wan began to feel suspicious. Did he already kill him? Careful, he approached the abandoned city on foot and used his earthbending to have some boulders surround him as a defensive maneuver. That’s when he noticed Hashirama charging at him. Using one of the boulders as a shield, he watched the Hokage punch through it and hop. Before he could counter attack, Wan saw the second boulder get destroyed and used it as his chance to airbend Hashirama away from him. When he could finally get some breathing room; he pulled the man towards him with a severe gust and performed an elbow strike to Hashirama’s neck, knocking the wind out of him to say.

He wasn’t done yet. Wan sent a large slab of earth into his foe’s stomach, launching him into the sky. He ended the assault by using the wind to force Hashirama back to earth… and into an open slab of it. He clapped, crushing his foe. With a satisfied smirk, he turned to walk away... but something bothered him. Turning around, his eyes widened and he forced himself down, creating ice in mid-air to use as a shield from the broadsword that would’ve split his head open. His foe was still alive and unharmed!

Shocked; Wan used his earthbending to send several nearby pieces of earth at Hashirama. The Hokage simply hopped into the sky and landed behind Wan… only to feel his feet being sucked into the earth. Quicksand. With a satisfied smirk; Wan decided to wait and make sure his foe couldn’t trick his way out. That was when he saw Hashirama make a rapid series of handsigns before his eyes.

Hashirama turned his hand into a series of wood spikes and shot them forward in Wan’s direction. The Avatar tilted his head back and noticed the wood hit an empty house and was greeted with Hashirama striking him in the face with a kick. With a confident smirk; Hashirama turned his hand back to normal and stood on the side of the house, waiting to see what his enemy would do now. Wan, he was rather pissed.

With a deep breath; Wan felt his chest puff and finally blew, creating a powerful gust of wind at the Hokage. Covering his eyes; Hashirama was unable to realize the trick and was met with a punch to his chest that skyrocketed him into the sky. Wan was using his airbending to float and chase after him. Hashirama gulped and turned his hand into a wood mallet and swung down. The mallet was met with Wan’s water coated fist. The blow resulted with them both soaring in opposite directions; with the Hokage in the air and the Avatar landing against the ground. The two glanced at each other and began thinking.

Wan however, knew what to do. Being quick to stand, he tugged downward, the wind forcing Hashirama towards him. The Hokage was quick to notice his foe’s plan and charged a chakra enhanced punch. The second Wan sent a fireball; Hashirama countered with his own punch, separating the flame. Shocked; Wan jumped back, watching his foe land on his feet and clap his hands.

With that, the ground began to tremble below once again. Wan glared and stomped, creating a fissure that counteracted Hashirama’s jutsu. The Avatar yelled and sent a blast of water, following up with a cartwheel forward to send a wheel of flame at his foe. To end it, he spun quickly; sending a large blast of earth. Hashirama looked in surprise and hopped over the water, rolled to the side from the fire, then performed a chakra-enhanced jump to evade the ground attack. He knew that this man wasn’t going to stop the assault this easily and ran towards Wan.

More than enraged; Wan ran towards Hashirama and hopped several meters into the air. The Hokage jumped up to meet him and the two were engaged in a mid-air match of fisticuffs. Each punch was blocked by a fist or side of the arm, each kick blocked by a leg or pushed away by a palm. The two were evenly matched, that’s when Wan had his advantage in place. With a yell, he threw a punch against Hashirama’s chest and blasted him with a powerful blast of wind. He then pushed back, forcing the wind to pull his foe back towards him. He then arched back and released a blast of fire.

Shocked; Hashirama clapped his hands together, forcing a large pile of wood to gather before him and protect him. They barely survived against the fire; but just long enough for the Hokage to land against them and jump off onto the ground. Looking up; Hashirama noticed Wan glaring down at him and sigh.

“I was hoping I wouldn’t do this.” He warned. Getting into a meditative stance; Wan began to grow an aura, much to the Hokage’s shock. Before he could do a thing; Wan’s eyes snapped open. Instead of his usual brown eyes, were pure white anger. Wan was finally forced his hand and has finally gone into the Avatar State.

With a sigh; Wan dashed forward, throwing a large drill-shaped cone of water. Hashirama hopped back, barely evading the attack. Looking down, all he saw was a large fissure, followed by the ground breaking apart. His foe had disappeared in the ground. Confused, Hashirama checked every direction below and assumed he was hiding in the dirt again. Using another deep forest emergence to pull him out; Hashirama felt a blast of fire engulf him.

Standing above was Wan. With a thrust of his arm, he sent more flame, and more. And more. And more. And more. After the assault; he yelled and spun in place. The twister followed suit until it finally became a twister. When he clapped his hands; the fire exploded in hundreds of directions. In the center was a barely breathing Hashirama, the Hokage’s defense: Hobi Technique. Resembling the face of a (now) heavily burnt dragon, the wood fell apart, revealing the exhausted Hashirama land on the ground. Wan just looked down at his foe and held his hand upward, separating the very clouds.

“You’re outmatched here. Surrender.” He warned in an echoing and haunting tone. Hashirama unraveled his scroll and summoned a giant shuriken.

“Afraid I can’t do that. As Hokage. I have people I must protect… And NOBODY will threaten them. Not even my own children.” He responded. With that, Hashirama threw the shuriken; only to see it get turned to ashes by fire. Wan glared down and felt the sun rays hit him.

“Then this is where you fall. I won’t allow the task I promised Raava to end here!” he announced. Hashirama glared upwards and brought forth a broadsword. With a chakra-enhanced hop, he swung at Wan, who simply swatted the man away with the mere gust. Before Hashirama could get his head back together, he turned around and noticed a mountain heading his way that wasn’t there before… Wasn’t there… And holding the very city they were fighting on attached to it.

“Oh fu-.” He groaned. That’s then the top of the mountain overshadowed him and slammed against a nearby mountain… Hashirama and the ruins of the Hanging Gardens was now merely a sandwich for the earth below. Wan inhaled then yelled in victory. As he did, his sheer power ended up sending fire, water, and earth in every direction to show his sheer power.

Said victory was short lived however. When Wan looked back, he saw a large statue tower over him.  The tower itself resembled Buddha
with more hands than any normal human could care to count. Baffled, that’s when Wan realized it: his foe was STILL ALIVE SOMEHOW.

Using his earthbending to push the flattered ruins; he saw what WAS Hashirama become nothing more than smashed wood. Confused, he looked around and saw the statue throw a series of punches at him from above. Without a second thought; Wan created a series of twisters of every element around him. Fire, water, earth, and wind. Each one ripped the towering statue apart… but left him vulnerable from behind.

“Sage Art: Gate of the Great God!”

Before Wan could realize it, he was crushed underneath a series of large torii gates. While he could easily punch through them, he wasn’t given the chance.

“Wood Style: Wood Dragon!”

A large dragon of wood sprouted from the ground and charged, ramming itself into Wan and destroying the gates. Its large paw captured the Avatar and seemed to screech in victory. Inside its paw; Wan had a ball of air around him that kept the dragon from crushing him. He was going to find this man. And he was going to destroy him.

With a mighty roar; the heavens above shook. The dragon’s paw was destroyed by the ever growing ball of air as fire sprouted around it.
Water and entire boulders surrounded the ball, making Wan resemble the eye of the planet itself. He glanced down and charged forth, colliding with the ground with enough force to shatter it entirely. Nearby volcanoes erupted as a result and cloaked the sky with its ash. Hashirama found himself sliding across the ground and land against sub terrain ground… and face to face with the very warrior he was facing.

Wan charged forth, aiming to have anything kill his foe. It didn’t matter if it was the wind to shred his skin apart, the fire to torch him into ashes, the water to slice apart every cell of his body, or the earth to leave him as chunks of flesh and blood. All of the above was the best option., as long as he won.

“This is where this fight ends!!” shouted the Avatar. Hashirama glared forth, the Sage markings glowing to reflect the now blue flames from Wan. He had one more plan. But it was going to be hard to pull off.

“Genjutsu: Infinite Darkness!” he roared. A large shadow was cast over the two. Wan continued to charge forth, ignoring the darkness and using the fire to laminate the path. That was when he was left open. A giant fist struck past the intense wind itself and hit him, shattering in the process.

Slightly dazed; Wan looked around but was met with a bone-shattering punch to his cheek and another to his chest. Falling over, he coughed, too dazed to realize he was being lifted by the very branches of his foe.

From the outside; a large tree was seen, larger than any redwood. The image was even complete with what appeared to be entire bushes as leaves. With a clap, Hashirama roared. The entire tree itself was now in flames and raced from every direction towards the barely conscious Avatar and catching him in a bright flash visible for miles. What was just a tree a few seconds ago became a mushroom cloud of flame. Among the ruins was Hashirama as he walked off.

When the smoke cleared; Wan fell over, unable to breath. Weakened, he wandered off and slumped against a large stone.

“Raava… I failed.”

With his last breath, the Avatar closed his eyes. He was defeated.

K-O

Hakuboshi: “This was a tough battle, as well as insanely close. While Wan had the advantage with more destructive power and abilities; Hashirama was smarter and more experienced. While  Wan has battled spirits and benders, the opponents he fought used one power whereas Hashirama had to deal with people who could use more than one, especially with his constant run-in with Uchihas who could use every element when given the chance (especially Madara). Also, Hashirama’s Sage Mode runs off of natural energy to enhance his abilities, so Wan was likely giving him more power to work with to enhance everything. In the end; despite all of Wan’s abilities and power, he was unable to withstand Hashirama, who when serious, could go from a knucklehead to one of the strongest characters for a reason. In a blast, the winner is Hashirama Senju.
